Frequently Asked Questions

Will the artists get in the pool?

The pool is part of the production. All four vocalists will move in and out of the water during the performance. The circular expanse of the pool contributes significantly to the exceptional natural acoustics of the space. By having the artists interact with the water, they are engaging with their physical performance space in a way that has never been seen before in opera.

Their performance is not synchronized swimming. The artists performing at Opera at the Coliseum are internationally recognized as among the top in their field. The vocal artistry of the performance is the focus of the experience; their movements in the pool complement the storytelling in an original way.

What is the story of the program? Will I recognize any of the songs being performed?

The program tells a conceptual story of two couples soaking up the last droplets of sun at the Coliseum before Golden Hour sets on the horizon. The musical selections feature classic French and Italian operatic pieces and scenes often performed in major opera houses for the majority of the performance. Recognizable pieces will be featured towards the end of the performance. Two examples of songs that guests may be familiar with are “La Vie en Rose” and “Moon River”.

October can often be very warm, so layers are encouraged as well. Guests will be walking on brick and stone surfaces, so please consider that when selecting footwear.

Are restrooms and an elevator easily accessible?

Yes, there are guest restrooms on Level One and Level Two of Coliseum Pool. There is also a guest elevator if you prefer not to take the stairs.

What will the environment be like before, during, and after the performance?

Before the performance, guests are invited to toast this beautiful experience while they find their table. During the performance, we ask that talking be kept to a minimum since the performers are not using microphones or speakers, only the natural acoustics of the space, to project their voices. There will be a brief pause between sections for conversation and service refresh. After the performance, guests are invited to talk and mingle, savoring the beauty of the Golden Hour.
